Hotspot Highlight: Hong Kong

パッティ・トンプソン

Hong Kong. The city where East meets West, and finance is king. For more than a century, Hong Kong’s British influence was a driving force behind its modern culture. Even with the past 20 years of Chinese sovereignty, hints of the former British rule haven’t been completely eradicated. Instead, the city has taken on a cultural duality that is unique to Hong Kong. Salisbury Garden and Saint Andrew’s Church reside alongside Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Park to create a captivating urban landscape.

A vibrant city, densely populated and with strong financial and manufacturing industries, Hong Kong has many wonderful attractions for those fortunate enough to spend time there. An added benefit is that late February can promise moderate temperatures in the mid to high 60s °F (low to mid 20s °C) that make taking in the sights even more enjoyable.

And no trip to Hong Kong can be considered complete without the obligatory shopping excursion. From the Nathan Road, with its numerous bespoke tailors, to the Temple Street Night Market, shopping is de rigueur for a fully rounded Hong Kong visit.

If you are more interested in history or nature than shopping, there is plenty to draw you out and about. A must-see are the plethora of museums scattered throughout the city, Victoria Peak with its breathtaking view (and telescopes!) and the Avenue of Stars, where a life-sized bronze statue pays tribute to Hong Kong’s own Kung Fu master, Bruce Lee. RIP Bruce.

Wherever you choose to spend time in the city, iPass will have you covered with an always best connected experience.
